About MushroomMD

Mushrooms Held to a Standard Your Doctor Can Check

The research on medicinal mushrooms keeps growing. The labels on store shelves have not kept up. Many don't tell you which species is inside, which part of the mushroom was used, or how much of the active compounds you're actually getting.

The MD in MushroomMD stands for trust. We want every mushroom product we stand behind to be one your doctor can look at, check against the research, and feel confident recommending. That starts with knowing exactly what is in it.

The MushroomMD Medical Grade Standard

There is no legal definition of "medical grade" for supplements, so we wrote our own. It has six checks, and it is written so a clinician can hold any product up against it.

Identity

The species is named by its Latin name, and ideally the strain too.

Source

The label says whether it uses the fruiting body or mycelium on grain, and where and how it was grown.

Extraction

The extraction method and ratio are disclosed.

Potency

Active compounds are measured and listed per serving.

Purity

Every batch is third-party tested for heavy metals, microbes and pesticides, with a readable certificate of analysis.

Dose

A serving matches what human studies used.

We also care how a brand treats the world. We favor brands that give back through charitable causes or sustainable packaging.

Mushrooms Are Not a Fad

Mushrooms are all over the news this year, but they've actually been used in Eastern medicine for thousands of years. While MushroomMD launched in 2020, our founder, Dr. Michele Ross, has been active in mushroom research, education, and advocacy for over 16 years. In 2010, Dr. Ross began formulating beauty and health supplements including mushrooms for celebrity brands. She was the keynote speaker for the world-famous Telluride Mushroom Festival in 2016. She also co-founded the movement that made Denver the first U.S. city to decriminalize psilocybin mushrooms.

Why is Dr. Ross so passionate about mushrooms? She's experienced their ability to improve her life after her diagnosis with fibromyalgia, a chronic pain disorder, as well as other health issues she's experienced. She's also seen firsthand the health benefits of medicinal mushrooms in the thousands of patients she's consulted as a health coach and plant medicine guide. Dr. Ross truly believes that mushrooms can offset the toxic effects of our stressful lives and unhealthy diets, and help us age gracefully.
